Back to Basics

Well it's been a while since my last update mainly because I've been travelling a lot but probably more because I've been a bit lazy. I have racked up quite a few air miles in the past few months travelling around Asia for a month (Thailand, Hong Kong and Macau) followed by another couple of weeks in Vegas to support James Akenhead at the WSOP Main Event Final. These trips were so much fun it gets depressing coming back to the UK.

Since the last update I've played GUKPT Luton, APPT Macau, WSOPE, EPT London, GUKPT Thanet, WCOOP, World Heads Up Championships, a couple of Ventian Deepstacks and I'm currently on my way back from the Belgian Poker Open. My results have been pretty poor recently with only a few small cashes to show for all these competitions. I personally think it's a combination of running bad and being too trigger happy around the bubble stages of tournaments. I am really comfortable with the variance that comes with playing a lot of tournaments and generally put in enough hours at the cash tables to overcome downswings. However, recently I feel like I've lost a bit of confidence at the table, leading me to play a more regular and tighter style. I'm not sure if this is the correct adjustment to running bad, but as my results haven't changed I have decided to take a break from larger buy-in tournaments until 2010. Instead I will focus on cash games and continue to develop my Omaha game. I will most probably return to playing tourneys in January at either the PCA or Aussie Millions...

P.S. Tune into Sky Sports on Friday the 4th of December from 7pm as James Akenhead plays the Final of the Poker Million...Hopefully he can chalk up an impressive victory to round off an incredible year!
