Main Event Day 1A
Tuesday, 07 July 2009 08:39
So I'm through to day 2 with 44k and never really looked in trouble. This year everyone started with 30k in chips with the blinds starting at 50/100. I actually got up to over 80k in chips twice but got involved in some cooler situations where I lost some big pots. I had a great start table with Brad Garret from Everybody Loves Raymond and Jason Alexander from Seinfeld. I only recognised 2 other players at the table and we didn't get involved in too many pots.

I ended the 1st level on 25k after getting rivered in a pot where I was going for max value with top pair top kicker. I only won 1 pot of the 9 I played in the 1st level and decided to slow down as players were flopping straights and flushes for fun. Getting involved in the 1st level allowed me to figure out the style and leaks of a few of the weaker players at the table quite cheaply.
Next level was 100/200 and I managed to win a few pots by snapping off some bluffs with some really good reads to end the level on 34k. One interesting spot was where a guy limps in mid position, I call on the button with 89 off-suit and both blinds come along.

Flop: 4c 7c 4d

Its checked round to me and I bet 600. Small blind folds, big blind stares me down and gives me the "I don't think you got it kid" look before calling, mid position guy folds.

Turn: Qc

He checks to me and I check behind quite quickly probably giving up on the pot as he has shown the tendency to check raise on scare cards (turning (weaker) made hands into a bluff).

River: 8d

He checks to me again! At this point I believe I am winning 95% of the time and did not want to just check behind and miss a value bet. He is never checking 56 to me on the river or a flush or trip 4's so 2nd pair on the end is the nuts to me and I bet 1000. He thinks for about 25 seconds and raises me to 3500. At this point I start to hate my bet but the style I play gets players to spaz out all the time. One thing that made me very curious was the fact that he check raised a 1k bet on the turn to 3500 on an A K 9 4 board with 1010 and showed the bluff. As I start to play with my chips he looks really uncomfortable so I snap off his A10 bluff with my rivered pair and get the table a little excited.

After the dinner break blinds went straight to 150/300. This was a good level for me although I had a few tough decisions. I win my biggest pot of the day with 2d3d getting me up over 60k. Then I win a 25k flip against a short stack AK vs QQ to put me up around 80k. I lose a 40k pot against the guy who is 2nd in chips at the table when I flop a full house and he turns a bigger house. I actually wanted to fold the river as I put him on a bigger house but with the board coming the way it did, it may be a mistake to fold. I end the level on 46k after steaming off some more chips splashing around.

Final level of the day was 150/300 with a 25 running ante. I manage to flop quads for the second time on the day with QQ against KK to win a 30k pot and generally ran good to build up to over 80k again. Then I lose a 55k pot towards the end of the day where I flop top set on a 789 board and get the money in against a straight. I lose a few small pots towards the end of the day to end on 44k.
Hopefully I can run as good on day 2 but be on the right side of the coolers. I didn't see Aces or Kings once all day so hopefully I can get the ball rolling tomorrow...
