Grinding it back
Monday, 22 June 2009 00:32

Well this week I have focused a lot more on poker and toned down the partying quite a bit. I crushed the 5/10 cash games at the start of the week and am up a few buy-ins now. I was in a really good game earlier in the week where we had a compulsory $20 straddle from the button and got the 7-2 game going also. Anyone who wins a pot with 7-2 gets $25 from each player. It made the game so juicy because my bluff radar was working at full capacity. I played the role of 7-2 officer at the table, punishing anyone who tried t steal a pot I was in. I felt like I should have been rewarded each time I saved the table $225 (or each player $25). I was the big winner in the cash games 2 nights and have just been grinding a bit since then.

I felt like I was finally starting to see some form so I played in another $1500 WSOP Event. I grinded my 4500 starting stack down to 1500 early on but then managed to run it up to 25,000 (avg 14,000) just after the dinner break. Unfortunately I lost a big race AK vs QQ for a 30k pot and then lost as a 70/30 favourite (99 vs A2) to get back above average. It seems like I can't win a flip or any sort of showdown after the dinner break in these things! So anyways, I bust out of another WSOP event on day 1 to make me 0 for 7 for the series no day 2's. I also played a Bellagio 1k this week as I was too lazy to wake up in time for the WSOP 2k event and because they allow late registration for 4 hours!!! Well it was short and sweet anyways as I ran top set into a flush and AK into KK. GG wp

Played a Venetian deep-stack $550 tournament where you get 15k starting chips. As I arrived late I only got 12.5k. But this didn't stop me from running my stack up to 110k for a top 10 stack with 60 left. I think you can guess how this story goes!!! Top 36 get paid, $66k top prize - 2 suck-outs later I'm out in 40th! I was really annoyed with this result as I felt by far the best player at every table I played on and built up my stack with very few showdowns or big hands. I made 1 pretty crazy bluff that had 2 guys talking to themselves and the whole table shocked. Blinds are 600/1200 with a 100 running ante. 4 guys limp from mid position round to my small blind and I complete with 5s3c, the big blind checks.

Flop: AdQh8s - all check round

Turn: 6h - all check around

River: 9h - I check, an American kid who thinks he is really good but actually sucks and talks way too much gives a speech and bets 4400. I can't remember exactly what he said but it basically told me he had a strong hand but not the flush. So I put him on some random 2 pair or a set. He has about 27k in chips after the bet. A short-stack in late position thinks about it for about 10 seconds but gives away that he doesn't like his hand but he has to call - random 2 pr or retarded weak Ace. He has about 16k in chips after the call. Everyone else folds back to my small blind and I started playing with my chips. I counted out a call and the American kid looked quite happy, then I started to count out another 20k and he started to look sick, confused and started shaking his head. I raised it to 24,400 basically putting both my opponents tournament lives on the line. The American kid started talking to himself about how bad he runs and how he can never be winning before folding 10 J face up for the nut straight. The second guy folds 9 6 for back door 2 pair face up and I crack a little smile. The American kid is desperate to see my hand so I let him pick 1 card and he turns up the 3c and goes crazy. Lol

I played the $1k nightly main event satellite last night and managed to chop 7 $10k seats 10 ways. I was really short-stacked at the final and had the chip leader (with 4x average) directly to my left and shoving every hand so the deal worked well in my favour. I made some big lay downs and big calls which a lot of the players didn't understand because they were playing it like a normal tournament. I feel like my "A" game has finally arrived in Vegas and a decent result should be just round the corner...
